ExchangeCompress® is a Microsoft Exchange server based application that attempts to address these problems. It has four major functions which are:

• Analyze your Exchange stores to see how much space ExchangeCompress can save
• Clean up the deleted items and sent items folders
• Compress the attachments in all the mailboxes in a selected store. The attachments are then stored in the email as industry standard zip files.
• Strip the attachments from the email and store the attachment on disk as a file in a either a shared network location or the user's home directory.  Duplicate files can be eliminated so a file that is the same can be shared among many e-mail attachments.  This can be completely transparent to the user, who will still see the attachment as normal.  Outlook Web Access can be supported.
• Optionally defragment the selected stores to make storage contiguous, eliminating unused storage and reducing the database size.
