PSTCompress 4  is now available for download.  In testing it has reduced PST files by up to 95%.

The Trial version is limited to 5 PST files and 3 uses.  A use is defined as processing 1 PST file, 1 time.  The Analyze feature of the product does not have any use limitations and will show the savings you can expect on any PST file. You may request a trial extension key from your sales representative to increase this number or remove the limitation.

Important - Upgrading from PSTCompress 2 and PSTCompress 3!

PSTCompress 4 will require a new license key.  If you are under support this key will be provided free of change.  After installing PSTCompress 4 please e-mail us the User Id in the Tools/Register menu.

Version 2.0.24 - Took out check for double extension in file name for /Fix command.  PSTCompact Zip Edition did not always do this when creating a zip file attachment, so some attachments were not being fixed that should have been.  Corrected EULA to reference the state of Delaware rather than Florida.
Version 2.0.23 - Fixed numeric and date sorting on main screen and added the last modified date as a column for PST Files.  Improved error checking for detecting password protected PST Files.
Version 2.0.22 - Added /Fix command line switch to fix up attachments that had been zipped multiple times with an older version of PSTCompact Zip Edition.  Each additional time the program ran, it zipped the attachments again resulting in levels of zip files embedded in zip files for the number of times the attachment was processed.  The embedded zip files also had the incorrect original file extension, so the files appeared to be corrupted.  The /Fix command will restore such zip files to contain the original attachments.
Version 2.0.21 – Fixed problem where the entire Sent Items folder contents were deleted instead of items older than a selected number of days.
Version 2.0.20 – Fixed problem where a non admin user gets the message  "Outlook is not installed on this system. Outlook is needed to run this program."  It is still recommended that a user that is a member of Local Administrators be used to run the program.

Running PSTCompress with Outlook 2000

  • PSTCompress can be installed on a machine with Outlook 2000 and will run with the following limitations.
  • You may need the Outlook 2000 or Office 2000 installation CD in order to successfully reconfigure Outlook as detailed below.
  • You must configure Outlook's Email Service Options to be Corporate or Workgroup to force the correct files to be installed.  If Outlook is configured as Internet Only, then it can be reconfigured by selecting Tools/Options from the menu bar and then selecting the Mail Delivery tab.
  • You may only process PST files created with Outlook 2000, Outlook 2002 (XP).  Outlook 2003 files may be processed if they are not Unicode.

Running PSTCompress with non-English versions of Microsoft Office

  • The user language setting for a user running PSTCompress must match the language setting for Microsoft Office.  This will normally be the case without any addition action.  An example of where a problem will occur would be when a French version of Microsoft Office is installed on an English version of Microsoft Windows XP.
  • The symptom of this problem will be the Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders dialog will be displayed during the compaction step, instead of the Compact Now dialog and will appear to hang.
  • To correct this problem do the following:
    • Select the settings button and in the General tab of the Settings dialog select the correct language to override you systems settings.
  • OR
    • Windows 2000
      • Go to the Control Panel and select Regional Options
      • Set Your Locale (Language) to the language used by the Microsoft Office user interface. For example: if the Microsoft Office user interface is displayed in Dutch, set the Locale to Dutch (Netherlands)
    • Windows XP & Windows 2003
      • Go to the Control Panel and select Regional and Language Options
      • Set the Standards and Fomats language to the language used by the Microsoft Office user interface. For example: if the Microsoft Office user interface is displayed in Dutch, set the Locale to Dutch (Netherlands)
  • The following languages are supported:
English, Spanish, Finnish, French, Swedish, Turkish, Danish, German, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, and Portuguese
  •

Running PSTCompress  Version 2 and earlier as a service

  • PSTCompress cannot run as a service using the system account
  • The service account must have an Outlook profile.  This can be done by logging in to the service account on the machine PSTCompress is installed and running Outlook.  Configure Outlook as normal.
  • The service account user locale id must be the same as the Micosoft Office language. See the previous section, Running PSTCompress with non-English versions of Microsoft Office, for instructions.
  • This service account must be granted the log on as a service right.  To make sure this has been done use the service control panel to find the PSTCompressSvr service. View the service properties and then reenter the Log On User and Password and click apply.  The user will be granted the log on as a service right if it does not already have it. Then start the PSTCompressSVR Service as normal.
  • If you uninstall PSTCompress you should stop the service in the service control panel and then in the settings dialog uncheck Register as a service
